This is a list of useful software to see, manage and edit photos under xUbuntu.


Shotwell

Shotwell is a complete solution that can be used to view and edit images. For those who comes from the MAC world, Shotwell ~ iPhoto

Installation

apt-get install shotwell

Usage The application is available in Start menu > Graphics > Shotwell

  • On the 1st run, go to Edit > preferences and configure:
    • Library location: should be /home/myUser/Pictures/
    • Directory structure: Year-Month-Day
    • Rename files to lowercase


Fotoxx

Fotoxx, like shotwell, is a complete solution that can be used to view and edit images.

apt-get install fotoxx

Usage The application is available in Start menu > Graphics > Fotoxx

  • On the 1st start you have to choose a picture directory. I advise you to choose: /home/myUser/Pictures/

Then, you can easily browse your images.


Digikam

Shotwell is an advanced solution to manipulate and organize photos. For those who comes from the MAC world, Shotwell ~ aperture

You should NOT install it on xUbuntu because it will bring a lot of KDE libraries. But as a passionate, there is no other alternatives.
