This is a list of useful software to see, manage and edit photos under xUbuntu.

Depending on your needs, you should install one of the following tool:

Application	Description	Like ...	Note
Shotwell	Complete solution to view and edit images	Like iPhoto in the MAC world	Like iPhoto, Shotwell doesn't change the original image, all changes are keep inside the application's library!
gThumb	Complete solution to view and edit images	Like IrFanView on Windows	GThumb perform operation(s) directly on the files
Digikam	Advanced solution	Like Aperture in the MAC world

I recommended you gThumb. But if you're an advanced photographer, then you should keep your originals and use shotwell.

This is the one I'm using as a photograph newbie. Reminder: GThumb perform operation(s) directly on the files.

Installation

apt-get install gthumb

Usage You have to configure your application. Go to: Edit > Preferences

Reminder: Shotwell ~ iPhoto Like iPhoto Shotwell doesn't change the original image, everything is keep inside its own library!

Installation

apt-get install shotwell

Usage The application is available in Start menu > Graphics > Shotwell

On the 1st run, go to Edit > preferences and configure:
- Library location: should be /home/myUser/Pictures/
- Directory structure: Year-Month-Day
- Rename files to lowercase

For those who comes from the MAC world, Digikam ~ aperture

You should NOT install it on xUbuntu because it will bring a lot of KDE libraries. But as a passionate, there is no other alternatives.
